It is with both sadness and excitement that we want to announce that Andy Castro will be leaving Graceway come August. Andy has been instrumental in working with small groups, creating medium groups, Directions, church-wide events, and the list goes on. We are excited for his future and what God has laid on his heart for this next season in his life.

God began to work in Andy’s heart back in January this year the idea of church planting. He began to pray and discuss with his wife, Christa, and seek what God would have him do. He applied to the Summit Church Planting Network in North Carolina to see if he was even qualified; if he had the experience or skill set to do this.

During this time, he had connected with Kent Liles, from Grace Church in Overland Park, who asked Andy to help give ideas to their leaders about reaching young adults. Andy heard of their vision to church plant and it began to resonate with him. He and Christa again, began to pray more seriously about what God was doing through all of this. “We felt like this was the direction God was taking our hearts,” he says. He approached the Strategic Team and brought them into the process of praying with their family as well.

Andy began a job search, looking to get back into engineering, sales, anything that would be able to support his family to pursue this dream of church planting; but nothing was lining up. Soon, within just a 48 hour window God provided the Castro’s with a new job, he will be doing business development for a plumbing company, and a new house to downsize to which would allow him the flexibility to church plant.

“When I came to Graceway two years ago, I was in a bad spot both emotionally and spiritually. I knew God had called me into the ministry but I wasn’t necessarily in a healthy place. God used this church in an instrumental way to heal me, to heal my marriage, and put me in a better spot. I think this is one of the primary reasons God brought me here, is Graceway is a place that values emotional healing. For that, I am thankful.”

Over the next month, Andy will be transitioning out of Graceway. He will still be working and living in the area so you may catch him if you stop at the local coffee shop or see him running around town. In mid-August, the Castro’s will start attending Grace Church and begin being trained with the intent of eventually planting a church.

Andy and Christa will be greatly missed here at Graceway, but we are truly excited about their future and where God is leading them.
