Graceway partners with four elementary schools in our neighborhood throughout the year. This July we’re holding a school supply drive to help teachers and students get off to a strong start when classes resume in August.

Summers in Kansas City are a great time for yard sales. Savvy shoppers can find great bargains on gently used items like KCMO school uniforms (navy shirts, khaki pants) and books. If your children have moved on to middle school or high school you may find a few of these items in a closet!

We asked teachers what supplies would help them serve their students. Tissues, Clorox wipes, and hand sanitizer are high on the list – as are Post-It notes and dry erase markers. Students need items like glue sticks, loose leaf paper and spiral notebooks (wide-ruled), and 24-count crayons. A full list of items and specific clothing sizes are posted at http://visitgraceway.org/school-supply-drive.

Without our help many students will not have basic supplies like a backpack, folders, or pencils – and teachers will use their personal money to create an inviting learning environment for these children. Bins will be available in the Graceway lobby throughout July to collect supplies; together we can help each teacher and student have a fantastic school year.
