For the past several months, you have heard us discuss our new and improved approach to the discipleship process. Discipleship is not just a class or a program, it is at the heart of all that we do at Graceway. Our desire is to help people become healthy and thriving disciples of Jesus Christ. As disciples, one of God’s purposes for our lives is to continue to grow and be conformed to the image of Christ (Romans 8:28-29). We believe that the discipleship process is lifelong and that one never finishes growing. We approach discipleship through three components: building a biblical foundation, growing personally, and living missionally. As a church, we want to be intentional about supporting you in your growth.

We are excited that the time has finally come to roll out this new method! Beginning July 10, we begin the first group in this method discipleship.

Here is how the process will go:

  • The first six weeks, you will work through lessons 1-6 of the Directions material. This will be done in a small, process group environment.
  • Next, the second six weeks will be to participate in a process group. A process is a safe environment where you can connect deeper in relationships with others while exploring blind spots in your own life that are affecting your relationship with God and those around you.
  • Finally, the remaining 12 weeks will be covering Directions lessons 7-18. This will be done in a classroom type environment.

One thing we are excited about coming out of this improved method is the development of an Individual Growth Plan (IGP). It is a plan that is specifically designed by you and is specifically geared toward you to help you become intentional about your growth in your Biblical foundation, personal growth, and missional living. You will be creating a plan that has a holistic approach to your growth in the three components of discipleship that will include looking at spiritual, relational, emotional, intellectual and practical growth needs.

The last several months our staff has been participating in process groups and facilitator training. Staff has just begun working on their IGPs and are excited to begin this process as well.

As disciples we can never fully arrive, but we are always growing and always looking forward. We look forward to beginning this journey with you!

Frequently Asked Questions:
How do I find out more information?
For more details on start dates, IGP info, and the three steps in the process visit our discipleship page:

What if I have already been through the Directions material. Do I need to do anything now?
Sign-up for discipleship. We’ll ask a couple of questions to determine where you are in the process so we can get you into the next step of discipleship.

Do I have to complete all three steps in succession?
No. We understand that lives are busy and you may need to take a pause from the process at some point. We will have these sessions starting at different times throughout the year so once you have completed one of the steps, you can begin the next at a time that best fits your schedule.

What is a process group?
In the spirit of Eph. 4:11-16, a process group is a small group of people (usually 5-8) with a facilitator who meet for the purpose of creating a safe, confidential, and trustworthy environment. They talk about professional as well as personal issues and get feedback in the form of encouragement, confrontation, or confirmation from the rest of the group.

Does my IGP only address my spiritual growth? Why not?
IGP addresses all growth, not just spiritual growth question: The IGP is meant to address the whole person because Scripture addresses the whole person. It is holistic in nature because God is holistic in nature. Our spiritual development, emotional development, physical development, etc. are all intimately intertwined.
